Robert Quinn, Vice President, Insurance Collateral Solutions, Wilmington Trust (Opening Remarks)

Robert is the Vice President and Business Development Officer representing the Wilmington Trust Insurance/Reinsurance/ILS Trust product in New York.

Robert joined the Wilmington team in 2014. Over the past 15 years Robert has worked extensively defining acceptable insurance, reinsurance, and ILS collateral products. His international experience includes Kuala Lumpur, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Germany, France, United Kingdom, Ireland, Bermuda, the Cayman Islands, Barbados, Hong Kong, Australia, New Zealand, and others.

Robert holds a master’s degree in Business Administration from Columbia University (New York) and a bachelor’s in Business Administration from the University of Washington (Seattle).


Michael Ashton, Senior Executive, Gibraltar Finance

Michael is a chartered accountant and started his insurance career in the Lloyd’s market at Methuen at the time one of the largest Lloyd’s managing agents. He was part of the management team that completed a MBO with backing from private equity and then sold to ACE just 18 months later. He stayed with ACE for a further six years and was promoted to a number of senior management roles including COO of ACE Global Markets. He then worked outside the insurance sector for ten years apart from being a non-executive director and early stage investor in one of Gibraltar’s motor insurers. 

In 2013 he returned to the insurance sector in a newly created role of senior executive for Gibraltar Finance, the Government of Gibraltar’s marketing and business development department, focusing on opportunities for Gibraltar’s insurance sector. He initiated the idea of Gibraltar developing as an ILS domicile and helped form the Working Party of ILS professionals that provided expertise and industry input into Gibraltar's ILS Guidelines and supported the team that structured Gibraltar’s first ILS transaction - a €100 million collateralised reinsurance in 2015.


John DeCaro, Founding Principal and Portfolio Manager, Elementum

John DeCaro, CFA, is a Founding Principal and Portfolio Manager at Elementum. Lohn has managed a variety of reinsurance and risk-linked investment strategies since 1997. Prior to Elementum, he co-managed the Reinsurance and Risk-Linked Investments team at Stark Investments from September 2005 through November 2009. John earned a BS in Finance from the University of South Carolina, an MS in Financial Markets and Trading from the Illinois Institute of Technology, and received the Chartered Financial Analyst designation in 1997.  John also co-authored the Catastrophe Bonds chapter of “Alternative Risk Strategies” (2002).  Other career highlights:

01/2002 - 08/2005: Director of Cochran, Caronia Securities LLC; jointly responsible for the firm's asset management activities;

07/1997 - 12/2001: Head of RLI trading and research at Aon Capital Markets; instrumental in developing Aon's expertise in the sales, syndication, portfolio management, and trading of RLI through his market-making and institutional sales coverage responsibilities;

06/1995 - 06/1997: Head RLI and financial futures and options trader for Aon's Financial Risk Management Group; co-managed RLI portfolio.


Mirko Sartori
, Head of Insurance Liability Management, Assicurazioni Generali

Mirko Sartori is the Head of Insurance Liability Management at Assicurazioni Generali. ILM team is in charge of the capital market transactions (ILS, securitizations) and the structured solutions (alternative risk transfer) on the insurance risks of the Group life and non-life businesses, aimed at optimizing the solvency position, stabilizing the profitability or raising liquidity.

Before joining Assicurazioni Generali in May 2013, he worked 5 years for Katarsis Capital Advisors, the parent company of an ILS fund (Eskatos) specialized both in P&C and life/A&H, where he was focused on catbonds, cat-derivatives, collateralized reinsurance, run-off opportunities and life settlements.

Mirko spent 3 years at the Actuarial Department of Eurizon Financial Group where he was in charge of the European Embedded Value and IFRS3 methodology and calculation. From beginning 2003 to late 2005 he joined the Capital Allocation Department at Allianz-RAS where he had the responsibility to develop internal models measuring European Embedded Value and calculate Risk Based Capital. He holds a degree in Banking Economics from Verona University, Italy.


Tony Ursano, President, TigerRisk Partners

Tony Ursano joined TigerRisk Partners as President in April 2015 from Willis, where he was the founder and CEO of Willis Capital Markets & Advisory for six years and a member of the Willis Group Executive Committee. Prior to joining Willis, Tony was Vice Chairman of the Financial Institutions Group at Banc of America Securities. Between 1999 and 2008, he was Global Head of the Financial Institutions Group at Bank of America Securities, managing a team of more than 150 bankers. He has over 28 years of experience as an investment banker focused on the insurance industry and is a frequent speaker on the state of (re)insurance.

He has advised on more management acquisition of American Coastal Insurance and simultaneous sale by management of a significant interest in AmRisc; the sale of QBE’s MGA businesses to Alliant, and the sale of Cathedral to Lancashire while at Willis.

Additionally, throughout his career Tony has worked on numerous capital raising transactions (IPOs, equity, debt, and ILS) for ACE, Hiscox, Munich Re, Catlin, Chubb, Liberty Mutual, Willis and others.

Tony received his Bachelor of Arts in both Economics and International Studies from UNC Chapel Hill with honors where he was a Morehead Scholar and a member of their National Championship NCAA Division I Lacrosse Team.
